Federal authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the tragic fatal shooting of a U.S. Border Patrol agent near Coventry, Vermont, approximately 20 miles south of the Canadian border. The incident occurred on the afternoon of January 20, 2025, along Interstate 91, shaking the law enforcement community and raising questions about the circumstances leading to the loss of life.
According to initial reports, the Border Patrol agent, who was assigned to the Swanton Sector, was engaged in routine duties near the border when the incident unfolded. The agent was fatally shot during an encounter that involved two suspects. One of the suspects was killed at the scene, while the other sustained injuries and is currently in custody.
