Texans Fire Bobby Slowik: A Surprising Shake-Up After Playoff Run

Houston, TX – In a surprising move, the Houston Texans have fired offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik after just two seasons, despite the team’s recent appearance in the divisional round of the playoffs. The decision comes after a season marred by offensive struggles and the regression of star quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Under Slowik’s guidance, Stroud had a stellar rookie year in 2023, earning accolades such as Offensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowl selection. However, the 2024 season painted a different picture. The Texans’ offense dropped to 19th in points per game and 22nd in total yards, a stark decline from their top-15 rankings the previous year. These setbacks ultimately contributed to the decision to part ways with Slowik.

The Texans concluded the regular season with a respectable 10-7 record and secured a Wild Card win against the Los Angeles Chargers. However, their playoff run was cut short by the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round. Following the loss, head coach DeMeco Ryans expressed disappointment in the offense’s lack of progress, stating that changes were necessary to keep the team competitive.

Slowik’s dismissal isn’t the only shake-up on the Texans’ coaching staff. Offensive line coach Chris Strausser has also been let go, and the team has opted not to renew assistant offensive line coach Cole Popovich’s contract. The Texans now face the challenge of rebuilding their offensive coaching unit as they prepare for the 2025 season.

The decision to move on from Slowik has raised eyebrows, given the Texans’ overall improvement under head coach Ryans. Fans and analysts alike are left wondering whether this gamble will propel the team forward or disrupt the progress they’ve made. With Stroud at the helm, the pressure is on the Texans to find the right leadership to maximize their star quarterback’s potential and keep the team’s playoff hopes alive.
