A sophisticated scam using AI-generated images and fake social media accounts has defrauded a French woman of €830,000 (approximately $850,000). The victim, referred to as Anne, believed she was in contact with Hollywood actor Brad Pitt after receiving messages from a social media account claiming to be his mother.

The scammer used AI technology to create realistic images and videos to reinforce the deception, leading Anne to develop an online relationship with the impersonator. Over time, the scammer requested large sums of money, citing various fabricated reasons, including medical treatment for kidney cancer.
Anne complied with the requests, sending the money in multiple installments before realizing she had fallen victim to fraud. She has since filed a lawsuit, and authorities have launched an investigation into the scam.
Brad Pitt’s representatives issued a statement reminding fans that the actor does not use social media and warning against fraudulent schemes exploiting his name and likeness. They urged the public to exercise caution and verify claims before engaging online.
This incident highlights the growing threat posed by AI technology in facilitating sophisticated scams. Experts advise individuals to be vigilant when interacting online and report suspicious activity to authorities.
