With brushfire season approaching, Seminole County officials are encouraging residents to register for fire alerts to stay informed and prepared. The county has launched a public awareness campaign aimed at ensuring community safety during the high-risk season.
The fire alert system, which provides real-time updates on fire activity and emergency instructions, is accessible via text, email, and a dedicated mobile app. Residents can sign up through the Seminole County Emergency Management website.
“Staying informed is the first step in protecting your family and property,” said Alan Harris, Seminole County’s Emergency Manager. “Our alert system ensures that residents receive timely and accurate information to respond effectively in case of a fire.”
The appeal comes as weather forecasts predict dry conditions and elevated fire risks across central Florida in the coming weeks. Officials are particularly concerned about the potential for rapid fire spread fueled by strong winds and low humidity.
In addition to registering for alerts, Seminole County Fire Department is urging residents to take proactive measures, including:
- Clearing debris and flammable materials from around homes.
- Creating a defensible space of at least 30 feet.
- Preparing emergency kits with essentials like water, food, and important documents.
The county is also collaborating with local schools, businesses, and community organizations to distribute fire safety materials and host preparedness workshops.
“Brushfires can escalate quickly, and preparation is key to minimizing damage,” Harris added. “We’re counting on everyone to do their part to keep Seminole County safe.”
